Florida
I am a progressive licensed mental health therapist; who has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years. I have experience working with individuals, couples, and families from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. I have spent many years working with disadvantaged populations, cognitively challenged individuals, and with those diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illnesses I am highly experienced in crisis intervention and incidents that cause trauma. I have found great reward in working with domestic violence shelters and community outreach organizations focused on homelessness, independent living for cognitively challenged clients. Now more than ever, in these trying times, we need to make it easier for people to ask for help and more alternative ways to communicate. I want to be a part of the solution. I want to help those individuals who feel devalued, confused, alone, lost and help them to discover self-worth, direction, comfort, and hope. I believe in the importance of mindfulness and the power of being centered. I enjoy helping clients find their voice and embrace life by finding purpose

Greetings: I have been practicing for 40 years in a number of different settings. My Licenses are in the name "Elaine Walters McFerron." During the pandemic I moved my practice online. I have come to love this way of working. My experience runs deep. Many clients return at different stages of their lives when they feel the need for assistance, support and encouragement. How to get unstuck? I meet people where they are in the moment. I believe that change is possible. I am constantly thinking about what creates change. Often it is important to seek a different perspective. I think systemically. That means that I consider you as an individual or couple and all the people you are connected with. I value empathy and compassion. What makes us human beings? Everyone wants to be seen and heard. I believe in the power of presence and deep listening. Finding one's voice. I am direct and straight forward. I help individuals and families make important shifts in their lives, develop self-care plans, process grief, develop lasting relationships, establish spiritual practices. Because I am a writer with an MFA in Writing and Literature, I understand the creative process and help artists who feel challenged to make their art. I often prescribe books and other resources. I am a Certified iRest Yoga Nidra Meditation teacher and know the value of renewal, rest and restoration. It take a great deal of courage to begin any personal growth. I honor this courage.

Iowa
I am currently licensed in Iowa and Nebraska with over 26 years of professional work experience. The bulk of my career has been in community-based settings as I felt this type of setting was where I could give back to those that have helped me and my family of origin. I had a mother that was bi-polar and had a significant borderline personality disorder. Her first major hospitalization occurred following my birth. I have grown up in the Midwest but have lived in California and South Carolina as well as serving in the US military with one deployment to Afghanistan in which I served as the highest-ranking enlisted member of the Human Intelligence component of a Brigade Combat Team. I have a grown gay son and feel that my own healing process in coming to terms with my feelings toward my mentally ill mother were greatly facilitated by friendships in the queer community and feel a great depth of gratitude and respect for this community. I have been divorced, struggled with my own addiction, co-dependency and mental health issues throughout my lifetime and have carried various mental health diagnoses at different times in my life as well. I don't look at myself as complete expert on life but to quote Brene' Brown: "I might just be a little further down the road in recovery is all". I view therapy as more of an art form in that there are skills and techniques that can be learned and applied to the work of art that is being created, but it is the process involved that brings out the beauty of the final product. I understand the importance of being heard and feel that a person’s truth can emerge through a collective experience in the interaction and engagement with another human being. I hope to bring my experience in life and working with others to your life experience. I view it as a privilege to be able to be a part of the understanding of another person’s life and hope to be part of this journey with you.

As a therapist with great empathy and warmth, I specialize in guiding individuals through the complex landscape of grief in all its forms. Grief doesn't just apply to losing someone to death. Grief can be experienced in divorce and romantic breakups, loss of our pets, job loss, moving, losing friends, transformation of life stages, loss of physical abilities, and so many other situations. My goal is to support you through the myriad of emotions that grief can cause. With a background in counseling for over 20 years, including over 5 years experience in grief therapy training and certification, I most often use Person-Centered therapy, also known as Rogerian therapy. I view the client as the expert of their own life and encourage them to find their own solutions with my guidance. I also utilize Brief Solution Focused Therapy. In our sessions, you can expect a warm, empathetic approach, where your feelings are validated and your story is heard. I will support you in your grief journey as you learn to walk this new and maybe unexpected path. Am I the right therapist for you? *I love working with human beings from all backgrounds and this includes race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and disabilities. If there is a reason I do not feel I am the best fit for you I will discuss this with you before referring you out to another therapist on Betterhelp. *I work from home so you might see or hear the occasional dog or 4 in the background. *I like dogs a lot and like talking and hearing about them. Much of the grief therapy I have provided over the past couple of years has been with people grieving the loss of their beloved four legged family members (or any pet family member) *I am very laid back. *My therapy approach is very conversational. Message me if you have any questions!
