Virginia
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and have been in a private practice for over 25 years. I work with individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, ADHD, and traumatic experiences (physical, emotional, and sexual). Family conflicts and relationship issues are also a focus of my practice.
My approach includes cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and rational emotive behavior therapy. I often coordinate mindfulness, insight-oriented approaches, and storytelling in my sessions, depending on an individual’s uniqueness.
My primary goal is to develop a therapeutic relationship built on trust. I believe that the client’s motivation is key to success and that all motivation must start with a destination, chosen by the client. I see myself just as a facilitator, guiding the client towards that destination.
I look forward to working with you!

I am versed in the management of women's issues, specifically women of color. I served this population for more than two decades and written several books where the focus has been on women of color coming into their own. Notable is my book titled 'Even Superwoman Needs To Cry Sometimes'.
I am direct in my approach, with the expectation that you come ready to grow and make change in your life. As such I am focused on where you (the client) want to go (your goals) and utilizing the strengths/assets you have at your disposal to promote healing and growth. I will support your growth even as I challenge your thinking.
I am respectful of your cultural values and give credence to his in our clinical engagements. Spirituality, hence, (not necessarily religion) is often a component of treatment, however, this is at your discretion.
Our time together is your time; this is your platform. This is your space to share without fear of reprisal or judgment.

ABOUT ME
Hello, my name is Mildred (Millie) Majette Smith, and I will tell you a little about myself and the services I provide. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree, a Master of Science Dree and a Master of Social Work Degree. I have been a Psychotherapist for over 40 years. My passion to help others goes back to my time with The United Services Organizations(USO) as an Assistant Director in South Viet Nam. No, actually it was when I was around 6 years old. I was visiting my grandmother and there was a deaf person who also could not speak. I sat with him and used my fingers to communicate with him. Later when asked what I would do when I grew up, my daddy responded "she is going to be a Social Worker" and the rest is history. In Viet Nam, I had many duties but the most important to me was being an active listener as many of the soldiers began to experience difficulties in preparing for their return home, to their families and to the lives they left behind. I have also worked with clients on a wide rang of concerns including anxiety, depression, adjustments, PTSD, trauma , self esteem, mood instability, substance abuse, stress, additions, depression, family conflicts and relationship issues.
