Texas
I graduated with my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. During my Masters internship I worked within a PCP clinic providing integrated behavioral consultation to patients who came in complaining of physical ailments that held roots in behavioral management. The mind and the body are one and equally impact one another in wellness. This insight greatly impacted my perspective when working with other populations as well. After I acquired my LPC certification, I spent my time working with individuals who experienced more severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bipolar disorders, major depression, and mixed psychotic features. This experience further facilitated observations of mind-body co-morbidity, systems dysfunction, and environmental stressors. Because of these observations, my approach is very holistic (looking at the "whole" of the person and "whole" system by which the person exists) and is person centered. In terms of therapeutic approaches, there is no "one size fits all" therapeutic approach, and thus, I try my best to get a sense of personality and perceptions before diving into technique. Sometimes I use the help of free assessment tools to gain a better picture of the person as well, if the individual is willing to engage in this way. I always want those in sessions to be an active participant in their own treatment planning, and for this reason usually utilize a collaborative approach to therapy and direction. People describe me as dedicated, intuitive, down to earth, and understanding. We all get lost sometimes, it's part of life. I will do my best to help you form the best map to get you to wherever you are headed. There are several paths to the same destination, but the path that works best for you can only be decided BY you. So lets figure out which path that is, together.

Hello! My name is Jon Richard, LPC. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works in Austin, Texas. After graduating from the Masters of Arts in Counseling (MAC) program at St. Edward's University, I completed an internship at Capital Area Counseling (CAC) which is the most rewarding chapter of my adult life. At CAC, I discovered my therapeutic "voice" while counseling a diverse sample of the population (those who suffered from addiction, gender dysphoria, divorce, the harsh realities of youth and middle age).
By "therapeutic voice" I mean that a person-centered approach was congruent with my easy-going personality. I felt more authentic with clients when we engaged in a loose, organic conversations (sometimes informed by cognitive behavioral therapy). Since that time, I have gravitated toward Solution Focused Brief Therapy (though I cannot market myself as an official SFBT therapist). I find SFBT to be particularly liberating because it leads with inspiring the client by asking them about their desired outcome. Once I learn what difference you would like to notice in yourself, my line of questions will focus on your previous experience with happiness/success. The more vividly you can describe your history with the desired outcome, the more possible it seems.
The popular saying amongst SFBT experts like Elliott Connie, MA, LPC is "It's simple, but it's not easy". I cannot promise "easy", but I will say that the journey will be meaningful and invigorating.

North Carolina
I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor in the state of North Carolina. I having been working in this field for over 24 years. I am fortunate to have been afforded the opportunity to work in a variety of settings. These settings include substance abuse treatment, mental health crises, domestic violence, critical incidences, youth corrections, individual, couples and family counseling. I have worked with clients who have had issues with depression, anxiety, stress and psychsocial problems. While I have benefitted greatly from these experiences, I believe myself to be most effective in individual counseling. I have taken the benefit of all these experiences and combined them to be the best counselor I can be. No matter the initial presentation of my clients, their issues tend to fall into one or more of the areas of my experience.
As a therapist, my theoretical approaches tend to be solution focused, reality based with an emphasis on how my client views him or herself and the world around them. I believe we all make decisions and exhibit individual behaviors based on what we perceive is happening to us and the world around us. My goal is to help my clients determine if their beliefs, as well as their actions, are helping them be the best they can be. In addition to that, I work to ensure that my clients have the emotional tools they need to appropriately and effectively manage the emotional ups and downs of life. As I see it, life is "a continuum of temporary circumstances that we all must navigate the best we can with the skills we have".
My calling is to serve others, with the hope that I can contribute in some way to helping them make their lives better..
